Anti-static for plastic sheet
Static charge of plastic sheet can be disturbing your process. Creating solutions together for your process and packaging is what Van Meeuwen aims for. With anti-static coatings we make sure the static loading on the sheet is under control.
This phenomenon occurs when there is low humidity in the atmosphere. This can result in attracting dust from the surroundings, but also in packaging that sticks too much when stacked. Even dangerous situations can arise, for example when extruding polystyrene sheet a dangerous shock can occur during the production process.
Van Meeuwen helps you create clear sheet that is less sensitive for static loading to make your customers and production team happy.
Where are our anti-static agents often applied?
Anti-static agents are used to avoid negative effects and avoid electrostatic charges, that result in attraction of dust, splashing of printing inks and static shocks or discharges on machinery during the processing.
The anti-static agents are especially designed for conductive materials such as plastics (polyester, polystyrene) and mineral glass wool. And most important, immediately effective after treatment.
When existing products don’t fulfill the needs, we always can look for customized solutions.
The benefits of anti-static coatings for plastics
Our anti-static agents prevent static loading and promote discharging. Resulting in excellent conductivity and decay time. The working is independent from relative humidity. Our products are water-soluble and effective at low concentrations. A side benefit can be a reduction of friction.
We work with low toxic materials that are effective immediately after treatment. Often only a small quantity is required within the production process.
How does static loading works?
Most of the plastics are very good insulating materials. Their electrical conductivity is very low. To facilitate the dissipation of the charge, the anti-static agent forms a conductive film/coating on the surface.
The anti-static agent is based on a food grade water-soluble surfactant and provides an excellent surface resistance between 107 – 109 Ohm and 0 kV- < 0.1 kV according to DIN EN 61340-5-1.
The results: an excellent conductivity performance and a fast decay time on the surface.
Food safety and registration
Our products Baxiline AS and Foodcare® agents are in accordance with the EU Directive Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011 of January 14, 2011 and its amendments, plastic materials and articles, intended to come into contact with food. The products that we use have the right registrations and a copy of the composition list is available on request.
Application of anti-static coatings
The anti-static agents are concentrated water-based solutions and therefore need to be diluted before use. These specialty fluids are applied via coating stations like rotor spray systems and kiss-roll applications. And can be used in combination with a (modified) silicone emulsion that improves the hydrophobicity and friction (COF) of the surface.
Food packaging as a focus
Food packaging is the solution to reduce food waste and present the food in an attractive manner.
The portfolio additives of Van Meeuwen consist of several proven products with a worldwide presence under the brand names Foodcare® and Baxiline®, both silicone and non-silicone based.
For situations where existing products don’t fit, we create customized solutions together with our customers. The focus can be on certain polymers, certain quality improvements, durability or process efficiencies.
Related solutions
Anti-block or anti-fog agents are other product lines within the Foodcare® portfolio. Van Meeuwen offers different types and kinds of chemistry in order to respond to the challenges of our customers.
Within Van Meeuwen we will always try to find the optimum solution that fits with your requirements and situation. Less use of additives, less handling, realizing maximum performance.
