How do you take an oil sample from a system?

For taking an oil sample, you need the following:

  • A certified clean oil sampling bottle
  • A lint-free cloth
  • A drip tray

Read the instructions below carefully before taking an oil sample.

Safety warning: Wear protective clothing and PPE. CAUTION! The oil may be hot.

  1. Verify that the oil system is operating normally.
  2. Place the drip tray under the sampling point
  3. Open and close the sampling point five times and leave it open
  4. Flush the sampling point by letting one liter flow through
  5. Open the sampling bottle and hold the cap in your hand to prevent contamination
  6. Place the bottle under the oil flow without touching any pipes or the sampling point
  7. Fill the bottle with at least 100 ml
  8. Place the cap on the bottle immediately after taking the oil sample
  9. Close the sampling point
  10. Apply the label with the oil sample number to the bottle
  11. Enter the oil sample data online and send the sample bottle to the laboratory

All oil samples must be registered online. At minimum, the oil brand/type, ISO VG class, and application must be specified.
