CERSA (Compañía Ecuatoriana de Reciclaje S.A.), based in Quito, Ecuador, is a leading Latin American company that has specialized in plastic recycling for more than 15 years. The company is a pioneer in the use of 100% post-consumer recycled materials (PCR) and a driving force behind sustainable plastic production in Ecuador. CERSA combines advanced technology with strong social engagement — more than 8,000 families are involved in the collection process.
“We are an army of families and people who make a living by transforming plastic waste.”
With a vertically integrated process — from collection and sorting to processing — CERSA produces high-quality recycled PET and HDPE materials. At an altitude of 2,850 meters, in the world’s highest capital city, CERSA pursues one clear goal: combining sustainable innovation with top quality. When the transparency of their PET sheet came under pressure, the company turned to Van Meeuwen Additives for a solution.
The challenge: transparency and release issues
CERSA aimed to improve the quality of its PET sheet: a crucial factor for customer satisfaction and for use in food packaging applications.
The existing silicone-based anti-block agent caused visible watermarks on the PET sheets. In addition, the release process during thermoforming was not running smoothly: the sheets adhered too strongly to the mold, resulting in quality losses and production delays.
In short, CERSA urgently needed an anti-block additive that could enhance both transparency and release properties while remaining fully food-safe.
The solution: FoodCare® AB60 – clear results, smooth process
Together with Van Meeuwen Additives, CERSA selected FoodCare® AB60 as its new anti-block solution. After the switch, the company immediately noticed a clear improvement:
The PET sheet became fully transparent, with no visible watermarks or stains.
Mold release improved significantly, resulting in a faster and more consistent thermoforming process.
In addition, FoodCare® AB60 complies with European, FDA, and Mercosur food-contact regulations, an important advantage for packaging manufacturers.
The results at a glance
Fully transparent PET sheet, free from watermarks
Improved release performance during thermoforming
Food-contact approved (EU, FDA, Mercosur)
Higher product quality and reduced waste
A clear improvement in both quality and efficiency.
