Anti-fog
Anti-fog additives for plastic sheeting
Working together to create solutions for your process and packaging: that is what we strive for.
With anti-condensation coatings, we develop an anti-fog solution that prevents moisture droplets from obstructing visibility. Condensation usually occurs when there is a temperature difference between the inside and outside of a closed environment, causing local cooling on the surface.
Van Meeuwen helps you create a clear film that is less susceptible to condensation, ensuring that customers and consumers maintain perfect visibility.
Examples of applications for our anti-fog additives include cake boxes, sushi packaging, vegetable packaging, and blister packs, which often experience condensation due to cooling and heating.
Van Meeuwen offers the right solution for your anti-fog packaging. Below, we list a few of the benefits.
Fogged-up packaging in the supermarket, where the product is barely visible, is difficult to sell. This is especially true for fresh products such as lettuce, vegetables or mushrooms. You want the contents to remain visible: fresh, crisp and appealing. Our crystal-clear, food-safe functional additives, such as anti-fog, prevent condensation and ensure a clear, visible presentation, from the filling line to the refrigerated shelf. Practical, reliable and precisely tailored to your application.
The benefits of anti-fog coatings for plastics
Our FOODCARE® Anti-Fog additives for plastics prevent condensation forming on the surface of extruded sheet and thermoformed packaging, ensuring that product presentation remains clear and attractive. The condensed water droplets spread evenly to form a single transparent, uniform layer.
Within the production process, often only a small amount of the additive is required for optimal results.
Food safety and registration
Our FOODCARE® Anti-Fog additives comply with European Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011 of 14 January 2011 and subsequent amendments concerning plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food. The products we use have the appropriate registrations. If you have any questions about this, we will be happy to help you.
How does the anti-fog process work?
Anti-fog works based on two chemical properties: wetting and hydrophilicity, which refers to the degree to which a molecule can bond with water. Typically, water condenses on a surface as small droplets, which refract light and obstruct vision. However, when the surface is treated with an anti-fog solution, the result is completely different: the surface remains clear and transparent.
The anti-fog additives are hydrophilic: they dissolve in the water droplets and thereby reduce the surface tension.
This causes the droplets to merge into a single, uniform film that reflects light in the same way as a dry surface.
